Stewart Oldfield

Oldfield was the Deutsche Bank relationship manager who ran the day-to-day operations of the bank’s Epstein accounts, handling trust-level banking, large cash withdrawals, and counterparty communications while simultaneously managing the Wanek family accounts under shared RM codes. He later became Principal and CSO of the Wanek family office, Third Lake Partners.

Stewart Oldfield, CFA, CAIA, served as a Director at Deutsche Bank Trust Company Americas, Wealth Management, based at 345 Park Avenue in New York. From at least 2014 through 2019, he was the primary relationship manager for the full constellation of Jeffrey Epstein’s accounts at Deutsche Bank 1 — including Southern Trust Company, Southern Financial LLC, Gratitude America Ltd, the Haze Trust, and The 2017 Caterpillar Trust. His name appears with high frequency in the DOJ LMSBAND corpus: 1,818 co-occurrences with Richard Kahn (the highest co-occurrence count for Kahn; EFTA01344939) and 381 with Darren Indyke 2. These figures place Oldfield at the operational center of the banking relationship that the New York Department of Financial Services later fined Deutsche Bank $150 million for maintaining.

Oldfield simultaneously managed Epstein’s accounts and those of the Wanek family (Todd Wanek, Ashley Furniture heir) through Third Lake Capital, analysis of internal deposit reports suggests both were filed under shared relationship manager codes RM 81851 and RM 82289 3. Internal Deutsche Bank pipeline spreadsheets list Southern Financial as a Tier 1 client and Third Lake Capital as Tier 2 on the same document, under the same banker 4. Oldfield nominated both Epstein and Third Lake principals for the same Deutsche Bank-sponsored Frieze London art event, placing them on a shared invitation list 5. After departing Deutsche Bank, Oldfield became Principal and Chief Strategy Officer of Third Lake Partners LLC, the Wanek family office, per SEC Form D filings from 2022 onward.

Internal emails show Oldfield managing the concealment of Epstein’s identity in dealings with counterparties. In a March 2019 email to Richard Kahn, Oldfield wrote: “There was no discussion of any names. Not even the name of the trust” 6. He was also directly CC’d on large cash withdrawal requests, including a January 2018 request for $100,000 in hundred-dollar bills picked up by Darren Indyke under power of attorney 7.

Identity Concealment and Compliance Circumvention

In March 2019, Oldfield emailed Richard Kahn: “There was no discussion of any names. Not even the name of the trust. Thanks” 8. This message, sent from his Deutsche Bank email ([email protected]), indicates that Oldfield managed the concealment of Epstein’s identity when dealing with counterparties. When Deutsche Bank’s internal processes or external parties might have surfaced the name of the trust’s beneficial owner, Oldfield ensured they did not 8.

Earlier internal communications show a similar pattern. In November 2016, Oldfield exchanged emails with Todd Stevens (Managing Director, Head of Key Client Partners - Americas) about structuring Epstein’s ongoing relationship management. Stevens proposed getting “Shoshan to cover Jeffrey Epstein using his CA number,” and Oldfield responded: “That’s a great solution I think. We know JE likes syndicate. Will need Josh to be up to speed on the more interesting PE/HF offerings if and when we have them” 9. The exchange shows Epstein being managed as a client with customized investment product access rather than as a compliance concern.

Oldfield also provided AML clearance letters to Mile Lukic at LGT Bank for Haze Trust verification in April 2019, managing the interbank compliance channel via SWIFT MT199 10. In this role, he served as the intermediary between Deutsche Bank’s internal compliance representations and external banking counterparties 10.

Key Relationships

Oldfield’s network within the Epstein orbit centered on three axes: the Epstein inner circle, Deutsche Bank management, and the Wanek family.

His most extensively documented relationship was with Richard Kahn, Epstein’s financial manager and president of Gratitude America Ltd. The 1,818 LMSBAND co-occurrences between Oldfield and Kahn represent the highest co-occurrence count for Kahn in the entire corpus, exceeding even Kahn’s co-occurrences with Darren Indyke 11. Kahn, not Epstein, was the day-to-day counterparty for banking operations, and Oldfield was the banker on the other side of those transactions 11. They communicated about Gratitude America, the Haze Trust, Rothschild investments, and compliance inquiries 128.

With Darren Indyke, Oldfield corresponded about Prytanee LLC, CDD (Customer Due Diligence) forms, and account management (381 LMSBAND co-occurrences; EFTA01383785). Indyke served as the legal counterparty — the person with power of attorney who physically picked up large cash withdrawals and signed account documentation 13. Oldfield also met Epstein directly on January 30, 2017 at Epstein’s East 71st Street residence, with Kahn attending 14. Epstein’s calendar for the same day shows meetings with Boris Nikolic, Leon Black, and others.

The Wanek relationship operated in parallel. Oldfield was named as the “Banker Team” lead for Third Lake Capital in Deutsche Bank’s Account Planning documents 15, managing over $100M in AUM with weekly contact. After leaving Deutsche Bank, he became Principal and CSO of Third Lake Partners, moving from the bank side of the relationship to the client side.

Financial Operations and Cash Withdrawals

Oldfield was directly CC’d on the “Epstein Large Withdrawal III” email chain in January 2018 1613. The sequence began with Cynthia Rodriguez (Epstein’s assistant) requesting $100,000 in cash, preferably in hundred-dollar bills 16, with Darren Indyke designated as the authorized pickup person under his power of attorney over Epstein’s personal account 13. The Deutsche Bank branch could only assemble part of the amount in $100 bills, requiring the remainder in smaller denominations 16. The withdrawal was scheduled for January 17, 2018, and required documentation including government ID, residential address, date of birth, SSN, and account number 13. The “III” designation indicates at least two prior large cash withdrawal requests in the series.

Beyond cash withdrawals, Oldfield managed the broader financial portfolio. Internal pipeline spreadsheets 1 show him assigned as the sales team member overseeing a range of high-net-worth clients: Parami Capital ($1.3M), ORIX ($10M+), the Lindemann family ($2.9M), and others. Within this portfolio, Southern Financial was classified as a Tier 1 client and Third Lake Capital as Tier 2, with products including $10M in real estate lending, PE fund allocations, and $5M in preferred CDs 117.

Oldfield was also involved in verifying $30M+ for a Marrakech property purchase in March 2019 18 and in closing accounts associated with Karyna Shuliak in April 2019 19 — the final months before Epstein’s arrest. The Carbyne investment was also channeled through Deutsche Bank, with Indyke referencing “the transferring bank which is DB” and directing Kahn to contact “Stew” — likely Oldfield — to execute the wire.

The Dual Portfolio: Epstein and Wanek Under Shared RM Codes

A distinctive feature of Oldfield’s Deutsche Bank tenure is the co-management of the Epstein and Wanek relationships under shared relationship manager codes RM 81851 and RM 82289. Records indicate that daily deposit reports under these codes captured all accounts in both portfolios 3, and that the Epstein entity constellation and the Wanek family office were administered as parts of a single banker’s book of business.

The overlap extended beyond administrative categorization. Oldfield discussed both client families in the same internal communications. One email 17 shows him wanting to “discuss DBNY sweep from brokerage accounts held at KCP (Southern Financial) and how to approach discussions about our promotional rate with Southern and Third Lake since they have so many different entities with accounts and so many assets here already.” Southern Financial was Epstein; Third Lake was Wanek 17. Oldfield was negotiating their promotional rates in a single discussion 17.

The relationship extended to social events. A Deutsche Bank-sponsored Frieze London art event invitation list shows Oldfield nominating both Jeffrey Epstein for a “preview” and Ron Wanek/Ken Jones of Third Lake for “dinner and preview” 20. This bundling of a Tier 1 client (Southern Financial) with a Tier 2 client (Third Lake) under the same RM codes meant that, as a structural matter, exiting the Epstein relationship could have affected the larger Wanek relationship as well.

After leaving Deutsche Bank, Oldfield became Principal and Chief Strategy Officer of Third Lake Partners LLC, confirmed by SEC Form D filings from 2022 onward. SEC filings and internal records indicate his career moved from Credit Suisse to Deutsche Bank to the family office of his largest non-Epstein client at DB 21 — a trajectory in which the Wanek banking relationship preceded the employment relationship.

Trust Architecture and Entity Management

Oldfield was the Deutsche Bank point person for The 2017 Caterpillar Trust, one of the primary Epstein trust vehicles formed on January 3, 2017. He was named on bank statements from June 2018 onward 2223 and handled trustee matters and follow-ups. His in-person meeting with Epstein on January 30, 2017 — weeks after the trust’s formation — and his follow-up email referencing “levered muni structures” 24 suggest involvement in the trust’s early account setup and investment strategy.

Beyond the Caterpillar Trust, Oldfield managed banking across the Epstein entity landscape. He handled the bank accounts for Gratitude America Ltd 25, an entity described as philanthropic but which also served as a disbursement vehicle for payments to figures like Landon Thomas Jr. and the International Peace Institute. He handled Haze Trust documentation 26 and was involved in insurance trust paperwork 27. The entity BV 70 LLC also appears in his communications 25 — the same vehicle through which Leon Black’s $10 million payment was routed through Gratitude America.

The breadth of Oldfield’s entity coverage gave him visibility into the full architecture of Epstein’s financial life at Deutsche Bank: the personal accounts, the trust accounts, the foundations, the LLCs, and the interbank transfers to institutions like LGT Bank. Based on the available corpus, no other Deutsche Bank banker appears in as many Epstein-related documents.
